What is the difference between type 1 NPI and type 2 NPI?

There are two categories of heath care Providers for NPI enumeration purposes. Entity Type 1 (Individual) and Entity Type 2 (Organization).

Type 1 NPI is applied for with using the Provider's Social Security Number (SSN).

Type 2 NPI pertains to a corporation or LLC.
